Renovating your outdoor living area is well worth the investment and if you’re adding one that flows from an indoor entertaining area, then that can really make a difference to property value.

Decking / terrace / entertaining areas

Firstly, you’ll need a specialist deck builder – one that builds decks all the time.

There are plenty of people who think they can build it themselves, but if you want yours to last, don’t do it yourself.

And unless you have lots of time on your hands for maintenance (or plan on using the YORK’s Maintenance crew) then choose high quality material that improves the whole look and feel, and needs less looking after.

A stunning addition to your outdoor living area is a pergola – a framework which can be added as an extension to your existing building, connecting areas, or as a stand-alone feature.

It adds a different dimension to your zone, creating a lovely shaded spot, and is commonly used as a supporting structure for wisteria or grape vines.

What to look for when getting a quote

It’s important to know what to look for as you may get some estimates which seem comparatively less than others.

Take a closer look and there can be things missing, meaning you’ll get a nasty surprise as the costs mount up.

Plan your budget & goals carefully.

It’s so easy to overspend or rush into jobs which will cost you further down the track. Generally it’s a good idea to factor in an extra 10% contingency budget. And think about what is worth paying a little bit more for now which can help to reduce bills and make things more comfortable while you are living there.
